Pit River Land Transfer Act — Advanced by Senate Committee, Still Pending

Latest verified milestone
The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs advanced the Pit River Land Transfer Act in early August.
Land
The legislation concerns roughly 584 acres of Four Corners federal land to be held in trust for the Pit River Tribe.
Status
Pending; committee advancement is not enactment.

No newer enactment was located in the September 9 public sweep. Treat the measure as important progress, but not as completed transfer or current trust title.

California Tribal Bills — Dated Status Checks

Several Tribal-priority measures were moving through late-session stages last week. Because passage, enrollment, Governor action, and chaptering are different legal states, this Week 37 board does not repeat a bill as enacted without a current official status check.

California Pardon Applications — Use the Current Governor Instructions

A supplied Redding Rancheria notice says Governor Newsom announced an effort encouraging Native Americans who may have been unfairly affected by the justice system to consider pardon applications. I did not locate a current Governor’s Office page confirming a separate Native-specific application process during this check.

The Governor’s current pardon page does confirm that a person with a California conviction may apply for a direct pardon without a lawyer and provides the current forms, email, and mailing instructions. The current state mailing address differs from the address printed on the circulated flyer, so use the state page rather than the flyer for submission.

Completed MilestonePit River / Emergency Capacity

Emergency Operations Center Ribbon Cutting Completed

Assemblymember Heather Hadwick reported returning for the ribbon cutting of the completed Pit River Emergency Operations Center, describing the facility as added emergency-response and staging capacity and a potential pathway into fire and emergency-management careers.

This confirms the ribbon-cutting milestone that appeared as an upcoming item in Week 35; it does not by itself establish every operational capability or staffing level.

A Pit River Tribe public post reports that Tribal Sáttítla National Monument working-group representatives and Atwamsini cultural representation hosted visitors connected with Senator Alex Padilla’s office, Spirit Environmental, Resources Legacy Fund, and Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center. The visit focused on the historical, cultural, and hydrological importance of Jot Dean Ice Cave, Glass Mountain, Paynes Springs, the Medicine Lake shoreline, and the Fall River Spring Complex.

This is a relationship/advocacy milestone, not a claim that a new protection action or legal designation occurred this week.

Sources and changes for this issue

Core sources were checked September 9, 2026. Targeted September 10 checks covered Pit River Health Service employment, the new TNAP pantry notice, the two immediate regional September 11–13 event notices, the October 12 IITC Indigenous Peoples Day event, and the California Governor’s current pardon-application instructions.

Flyers are leads, not automatic authority. Current official sources were preferred when a flyer and a live source differed. Project LEAP remains the clearest earlier example: the supplied flyer showed a larger award, while current Intertribal Agriculture Council material says the 2026 award is $500.

New September 10 source checks: Sacred Visions was matched to the City of Fernley’s current event notice; California Indian Day was matched to Konocti Vista Casino’s current event page; IITC’s October 12 event was matched to IITC and the official Alcatraz ticket provider. The Alcatraz departure schedules are not identical, so readers are directed to recheck the ticket provider before travel.

Pardon notice: a supplied Redding Rancheria notice describes a Native-focused pardon initiative, but a separate Native-specific process was not located on the Governor’s current pardon page during this check. The current state mailing instructions also differ from the address printed on the flyer. The board therefore links the current Governor’s Office process and does not present the flyer’s submission address as controlling.

Items without sufficient sourcing were held for review. Expired deadlines are separated from upcoming events. Inclusion here does not make a regional event an official Pit River program.

Moving information. Weather, roads, fires, job listings, food-pantry supply, registration capacity, eligibility, event access, transportation schedules, and legal status can change after publication. Recheck the named source before acting.

Updated September 10: added Pit River TNAP food-pantry dates for Burney and Alturas; Sacred Visions Pow-Wow; California Indian Day at Konocti Vista; IITC’s October 12 Indigenous Peoples Day events; and a carefully bounded California pardon-application resource. Also corrected the weekday labels on the September 11 and 12 PRHS community meetings.
