Act now
Pit River Annual Elections — Saturday: August 15 outside Pit River Casino. Sign-in is 8:00–10:00 AM; band elections begin at 10:30 AM.
Participation: qualified voters must be present in person. The Elections Act does not permit proxy or absentee voting. If you are unsure about registration or band status, contact the Tribal Secretary or Election Committee now.
TERO Boot Camp — tonight: Thursday, August 13, 5:30–8:20 PM, Crafting a Brand and Setting Prices. Remaining listed sessions are August 18 and 20.
Bug Fire: about 88,400 acres as of August 13, with evacuation orders and warnings still active in parts of Lassen County. Conditions are changing.
SR 299: one-way control east of SR 89 can add up to 15 minutes through August 31; Caltrans also reports one-way control at Canby because of a grass fire.
Coming up
Election day weather: Burney is forecast mostly sunny around 83°F Saturday. Recheck before leaving.
Higher Education Scholarship: August 31 fall deadline; published funding is first come, first serve and not guaranteed.
Four Corners Event: Saturday, October 10.
Quarterly Membership Meeting: Saturday, October 17 at 10:00 AM in Burney.
Regional: Yurok Salmon Festival is also August 15; Lassen Youth Culture Camp is August 22. These are not Pit River events and appear at the end of the Events section.

Show up informed, listen carefully, ask questions, and make your own judgment about what best serves Pit River people now and what should be carried forward for future generations. Four Corners, ancestral land, community gathering, and continuity.
Status
The event date is confirmed in the official Q2 newsletter. The federal land-transfer legislation is advancing but is not yet final law.

Begin at 10:30 AM.
Qualified voters
The Elections Act defines a qualified voter as an enrolled member age 18 or older on election day who is registered under the Act.
Presence
Registered voters must be present at the annual meeting to vote. Proxy and absentee voting are not permitted.
The official newsletter says the 11 bands will elect main and alternate council and cultural representatives, and the election also includes Tribal Officers, Pit River Health Service Board members, and Pit River Housing Board members.
If you are unsure whether your registration or band status is correct, contact the Tribal Secretary or Election Committee directly. This board cannot verify an individual voter’s eligibility.
The Pit River Constitution speaks of sovereignty, ancestral lands and resources, peace and order, the general welfare of the people and descendants, member rights, and preservation of land, culture, and identity.
Question to carry
What choices best meet present responsibilities while leaving stronger conditions for Pit River people and descendants?
There is no single answer supplied by this board. The point is to make your own decision with both present needs and future consequences in view.

Election-Week Conduct: Keep the Decision With the Voter
Principle
Encourage relatives to participate, share official information, and leave each voter free to make their own choice.
Avoid
Rumors presented as fact, pressure to vote for a person, or claims that disagreement makes someone less committed to the Tribe.
A strong election can include disagreement. The useful standard is whether people can participate with accurate information, dignity, and responsibility for what follows.

Families and friends of loved ones who have been missing long-term.
Purpose
Connect families with law enforcement and support services; Fresno State says the event can help update or create a missing-person report and may include DNA collection from close biological relatives.
This is a free Fresno event and is not Pit River-specific. It appears at the end of this section because it may still be useful to families dealing with a long-term missing loved one.

Pit River Land Transfer Act Advances in Senate Committee
Status
The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs advanced the Pit River Land Transfer Act on August 6.
Current Senate description
The measure would transfer 557 acres of federal land to be held in trust for the Pit River Tribe.
What it does not mean
Committee advancement is significant progress, but it is not final enactment.
The current Senate announcement describes the measure as restoring ancestral homelands and supporting Tribal management. This is a progress item, not a claim that the transfer is complete.
The Tribe reported a one-year award to recruit, train, and employ four youth ages 16–30 in food sovereignty, climate resilience, and land stewardship connected to the Alturas greenhouse.
This is a reported investment in present work that can also build longer-term capacity.
