Federal Bill Watch · checked 09/16Pit River / Four Corners / Congress

Pit River Land Transfer Act — Advanced by Senate Committee, Still Pending

Latest verified milestone
The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs advanced S. 2871 in August 2026.
Land
The bill concerns more than 500 acres of federal land associated with Four Corners.
Status
Pending; committee advancement is not enactment or completed trust transfer.

No enactment was located in the September 16 check. The Check-In therefore continues to describe the bill as pending rather than as a completed land transfer.

California Pardon Applications — Use the Current State Instructions

A Native-community notice circulated earlier this month points people toward California’s pardon process. The Governor’s current page confirms that a person with a California conviction may apply for a direct pardon without a lawyer. The Check-In does not treat the circulated flyer’s mailing address as controlling because the current state instructions differ.

This is an information resource, not legal advice.

Sources and changes for this issue

Core public sources were checked September 16, 2026. The weekly inbox contained no new files dated after September 9, so this issue carries forward still-relevant submitted flyers only where the date remains current and the item still belongs in the week.

What changed from Week 37: the PRHS Round Mountain community meeting, Pit River Greenhouse tour, Alturas wolf-management training, Burney TNAP pantry, September 22 language session, and September 18 buffalo webinar move into the active window. The Sacred Visions Pow-Wow, California Indian Day, September 11–12 PRHS meetings, and early Open Farm Week stops move to passed status.

Fresh status checks: Pit River Tribal Employment now lists GL Fund Accountant and Kwahn Board Member in addition to previously listed openings. Caltrans no longer lists the Adin-area SR 299 controls carried last week; its current report lists controls farther west in Humboldt and Trinity counties. CAL FIRE now lists the 4-1 Fire at 100% contained and 230 acres, last updated September 10.

Weather: NWS Sacramento identifies a slight chance of thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday over Shasta County and the southern Cascades, with lightning-related fire-weather concerns. Weather is moving information; use the newest local forecast before travel or outdoor work.

Flyers remain leads, not automatic authority. Where a supplied flyer and a live official source differ, the current official source controls. Regional event inclusion does not make an event an official Pit River program.

Moving information. Weather, roads, fires, jobs, pantry supply, registration, eligibility, event access, transportation, and legislative status can change after publication. Recheck the named source before acting.
